A destination wedding at Triyuginarayan Temple is a chance to begin your marriage at the very place where Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati were married. Set in Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand at 1,980 metres in the Garhwal Himalayas, the temple is recognised by the Uttarakhand Government as an official destination wedding site since 2018. Mahi Events Planner is a Ramnagar-based, government-authorised wedding planning company that organises Vedic temple weddings, Akhand Dhuni pheras and full-stay Himalayan wedding experiences for couples from India and abroad. From an intimate 20-guest Triyuginarayan temple marriage to a 150-guest spiritual celebration with sangeet, mehndi and a sattvic Garhwali feast, our local team handles temple permissions, priest coordination, decor, transport, accommodation, photography and legal registration — so you focus only on the moment.

Quick answer: A Triyuginarayan Temple wedding for 20 to 50 guests starts from ₹2 to 8 lakh, a comfortable 80 to 150 guest celebration ranges from ₹12 to 22 lakh, and a luxury Himalayan package can go up to ₹45 lakh or more. Best months are April to June and September to early November. The drive from Dehradun is 7 to 8 hours; helicopter transfers are available. Mahi Events handles temple permissions, Vedic rituals, stay and transport end to end.

Tie the Knot Where the Gods Did — A Divine Destination Wedding at Triyuginarayan Temple

Begin your forever journey at the celestial venue where Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati were united in holy matrimony, witnessed by the gods and an eternal flame. Mahi Events Planner invites you to craft a wedding that transcends time — a sacred union blessed by divinity itself in the heart of the majestic Garhwal Himalayas.

A Vow Witnessed by the Eternal Flame

Imagine exchanging vows in a place steeped in mythology, where every stone and every whisper of the wind tells a tale of divine love. The Triyuginarayan Temple in Uttarakhand is not just a destination — it is a spiritual pilgrimage for couples seeking a truly profound beginning to their married life.

The legend says this was the very spot where Lord Shiva married Goddess Parvati. The ceremony was officiated by Lord Vishnu, who served as Parvati’s brother, and attended by all the gods and sages, with Lord Brahma serving as the priest. The central fire, the Akhand Dhuni, is a living witness to that celestial event. It is believed to have been burning for three Yugas — Satya, Treta and Dwapar — and the name Triyuginarayan itself means ‘The Lord of Three Ages’. Circling this sacred fire is considered the ultimate blessing for a marriage.

At Mahi Events, we don’t just plan weddings — we orchestrate sacred experiences. We believe your wedding day should be as legendary as the love story you celebrate.

Why Choose Triyuginarayan for Your Wedding — The Mahi Events Perspective

While many destinations offer beauty, Triyuginarayan offers a soul-stirring blend of spirituality, serenity and spectacular Himalayan scenery. Here is why couples from Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, the United States, the United Kingdom, Singapore and Dubai choose this sacred site for their destination wedding in Uttarakhand.

  • Divine blessings of the Adi-Dampati: Begin your marriage with the blessings of the Adi-Dampati — Shiva and Parvati, the first divine couple — at their original wedding venue.
  • The eternal witness — Akhand Dhuni: Perform your pheras around the same eternal flame that witnessed the divine union. This is a unique Vedic wedding ritual no other place on Earth can offer.
  • Unparalleled Himalayan scenery: Nestled amidst the Garhwal Himalayas at 1,980 metres altitude, the temple offers breathtaking panoramic views of snow-capped peaks, creating a dramatic and unforgettable backdrop.
  • Intimate and exclusive: Escape the noise of conventional weddings. A Triyuginarayan temple wedding is an intimate affair, focused on your bond and shared with your most cherished family and friends.
  • A story for a lifetime: Your wedding won’t just be an event — it will be a legendary tale you share for generations.
  • Recognised destination wedding site: The Uttarakhand Government officially recognised Triyuginarayan as a destination wedding location in 2018, with a transparent process for permissions and legal registration.
  • Surprisingly affordable: A Triyuginarayan wedding costs a fraction of a comparable Goa, Udaipur or Jaipur wedding. The spiritual depth is priceless, and the venue itself charges only a modest temple fee.

The Three Sacred Kunds — Pre-Wedding Purification Ritual

Triyuginarayan offers something no other wedding destination in India can — a pre-wedding purification ritual at three sacred water tanks (kunds) that pre-date the divine wedding itself. The bride and groom (and immediate family if they wish) bathe in or sprinkle water from these kunds before the main ceremony. The ritual is short, deeply moving, and creates some of the most powerful wedding photographs of the day.

  • Rudra Kund: Where Lord Shiva is said to have bathed before his wedding. This kund is for the groom’s pre-wedding purification.
  • Vishnu Kund: Where Lord Vishnu bathed before playing the role of Parvati’s brother and giving her away in marriage. Family members can take blessings here.
  • Brahma Kund: Where Lord Brahma performed his ritual cleansing before officiating the wedding.

All three kunds are inside the temple complex and are fed by the holy Saraswati river that originates near the temple. The water is cold and crystal clear. Most couples take a small dip or a symbolic sprinkle, depending on weather and personal comfort. We arrange traditional white attire, towels and warm shawls for after the ritual.

Insider Tip — Carry kund ash for prosperity: Local belief says couples who carry a pinch of ash from the Akhand Dhuni back home are blessed with prosperity, fertility and lasting happiness. We arrange a small brass urn so you can take a portion of the blessed ash with you. Keep it on the home mandir.

Your Dream Himalayan Wedding, Flawlessly Executed by Mahi Events

Planning a wedding in a remote, high-altitude location like Triyuginarayan requires meticulous planning, local expertise and a deep understanding of the region’s unique challenges. This is where Mahi Events transforms a logistical puzzle into a seamless, magical experience. We are not just planners — we are your trusted partners in the mountains.

A Divine Destination Wedding at Triyuginarayan Temple

Bespoke Wedding and Ritual Curation

Your love story is unique, and your wedding should be too. We work with you to design every detail — from sacred puja timings in consultation with the temple priests, to personalised decor that complements the temple’s ancient architecture and natural beauty. Marigold mandap, copper diyas, brass bells, traditional Garhwali drapes — every element is chosen with intent.

Logistics & Transport Management for wedding.

Logistics and Transport Management

Reaching Triyuginarayan is a journey. We manage all transport logistics for you and your guests, including comfortable Innova Crysta and Tempo Traveller fleets from the nearest airport (Jolly Grant, Dehradun) or railway station (Rishikesh or Haridwar), local transport to and from the temple, and helicopter transfers for couples who want a faster route or a luxury arrival.

Accommodation & Guest Hospitality

Accommodation and Guest Hospitality

While accommodation at Triyuginarayan village itself is basic (guesthouses, the GMVN tourist lodge and a few homestays), we have exclusive tie-ups with the best hotels, guesthouses and resorts in nearby towns like Guptkashi, Sitapur and Sonprayag. Popular options include Shri Tirtham Residency in Guptkashi, La Fiyoli, Char Dham Camp Sitapur and select premium homestays. We ensure your guests experience warm Garhwali hospitality and comfort, with dedicated teams to manage their check-in, travel and needs.

Authentic Vendor Curation

We connect you with the best and most reliable local vendors who understand the temple’s traditions and the region’s logistics.

  • Temple priests (Purohits): Facilitating ceremonies with authentic, experienced priests appointed by the temple committee. Only temple-appointed Purohits can perform the Akhand Dhuni rituals.
  • Garhwali musicians and folk artists: Local folk musicians who play traditional mangal geet, auspicious wedding songs sung in the Kumaoni and Garhwali tradition. Available with dhol, damau, ransingha and bhankora — the four classical instruments of the Pahadi wedding ensemble.
  • Local cuisine specialists: A delectable menu of sattvic and traditional Garhwali cuisine, including Bhatt ki Churkani, Kafuli, Mandua roti, Aloo ke Gutke, Jhangora kheer and Bal Mithai favours.
  • Photographers and videographers: Professionals who specialise in high-altitude wedding photography and know the best shooting spots inside the temple complex, around the kunds, and on the surrounding meadows.

Permits, Legal Formalities and Marriage Registration

We handle all the necessary permissions and paperwork required for conducting a wedding ceremony at the temple. The temple issues an official marriage receipt after the ceremony, which is accepted by the Rudraprayag registrar’s office and can also be used for legal marriage registration under the Hindu Marriage Act anywhere in India. For NRI and foreigner couples, we coordinate the additional documentation, apostille requirements and embassy paperwork.

  • Makeup and hair artists: Specialists experienced with mountain conditions, including cold-weather and high-altitude bridal styling.

  • Customised wedding stationery and welcome hampers: Garhwali-themed invitation cards, room-drop welcome kits with local snacks, herbal tea, woollen shawls and a hand-written welcome note.

Sample Itinerary for Your Divine Union — 3 Days, 2 Nights

This is a suggested framework we customise to your vision, family preferences and ritual order. Most couples plan a 3-day, 2-night wedding to balance ritual depth with guest comfort.

Day 1 — Arrival in the Abode of the Gods and Mehendi Celebration

  • Morning to afternoon: Guests arrive at Dehradun Jolly Grant Airport (DED) and are greeted by the Mahi Events team. Scenic transfer to your hotel in Guptkashi or Sonprayag with refreshments en route.
  • Late afternoon: Traditional Garhwali welcome at the hotel with buransh juice and marigold garlands. Check-in and time to relax.
  • Evening: A vibrant mehendi and sangeet ceremony with Garhwali folk music, choreographed family performances and a bonfire under the stars. Light dinner with a North Indian and Pahadi menu.

Day 2 — The Sacred Wedding at Triyuginarayan Temple

  • Morning: A relaxed haldi ceremony at the hotel with marigold and turmeric decor.
  • Late morning: After a leisurely breakfast, the wedding party proceeds to the Triyuginarayan Temple, about a 30 to 45 minute drive from Guptkashi.
  • Afternoon: Optional purification ritual at the three sacred kunds — Rudra, Vishnu and Brahma. Followed by the bride and groom’s entry to the temple courtyard.
  • Late afternoon: The divine wedding ceremony commences with rituals performed by the temple priests. The sacred pheras (sapta padi) are performed around the Akhand Dhuni — the eternal flame.
  • Evening: Post-ceremony, a divine prasad and a celebratory sattvic lunch on a meadow near the temple. Couple receives the official temple marriage receipt.
  • Night: Return to the hotel for an intimate reception dinner with a Garhwali thali menu.

Day 3 — Farewell with Blessings

  • Morning: After breakfast, optional visits to nearby sites — Kalimath, Ukhimath, Kartik Swami Temple, Mandakini riverbank or a short Garhwal village walk.
  • Late morning: Check-out and scenic transfer back to Dehradun Airport with a heart full of divine memories.

Insider Tip — Build a buffer day in winter: From late November to March, mountain weather can be unpredictable. Add a buffer day at the start of the itinerary so a delayed road or flight does not push the wedding by a day.

Best Time for Your Celestial Wedding

The Himalayas have their own rhythm. The Triyuginarayan Temple is open to wedding ceremonies only during the comfortable months — outside of this window, road access, weather and altitude make the journey risky.

Month Day Temp Night Temp Wedding Suitability
March (late) 12–18°C 4–8°C Good — early spring, clear skies, valley flowers blooming
April 16–22°C 8–12°C Excellent — peak spring, lush greenery, very photogenic
May 18–24°C 10–14°C Excellent — peak season, longest days
June 20–26°C 12–16°C Excellent — last window before monsoon, book 6 months early
July 18–24°C 14–18°C Avoid — monsoon, landslide risk, road blockages
August 18–23°C 14–17°C Avoid — heavy monsoon
September 16–22°C 10–14°C Excellent — post-monsoon clarity, snow peaks visible
October 14–20°C 6–10°C Excellent — crisp clear air, golden light, photogenic
Early November 10–16°C 2–6°C Very good — cold but dramatic, layered styling needed
Mid Nov–Feb 5–12°C -2 to 4°C Avoid — heavy snow, road closure, extreme cold

We strongly advise against planning a wedding during the monsoon (July to August) due to risks of landslides and road blockages, and in peak winter (December to February) due to heavy snowfall and extreme cold. The temple itself can become inaccessible in winter.

How to Reach Triyuginarayan Temple for Your Wedding

Triyuginarayan is a remote Himalayan village — the journey itself is part of the experience. Below is a realistic travel guide from major Indian cities. For most couples, the route is fly or train to Dehradun, then a scenic road drive.

From Mode Distance / Time Notes
Delhi Road 445 km, 11–13 hrs Long but scenic via Haridwar and Rishikesh
Delhi Flight + road 1 hr + 7–8 hrs Fly to Dehradun (DED), drive to Guptkashi
Mumbai Flight + road 2.5 hr + 8 hrs Fly to Dehradun via Delhi
Bengaluru Flight + road 3 hr + 8 hrs Fly to Dehradun
Rishikesh Road 220 km, 7–8 hrs Direct mountain drive
Haridwar Road 245 km, 7–8 hrs Direct mountain drive
Dehradun (DED) Road 230 km, 7–8 hrs Nearest airport, recommended
Helicopter Air 30–45 minutes Dehradun to Sersi or Guptkashi helipad
  • Nearest airport: Jolly Grant Airport, Dehradun (DED) — well-connected to Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Lucknow.
  • Nearest railway stations: Rishikesh and Haridwar — both with direct overnight trains from Delhi, Lucknow, Mumbai and Kolkata.
  • From Guptkashi to temple: Drive of 30 to 45 minutes via Sonprayag. Last 5 km is a narrow mountain road; only smaller SUVs are advised.
  • From Sonprayag: Just 14 km to the temple, with a final climb. This is the closest base for elderly guests.

Insider Tip — The smartest guest route: Fly all guests to Dehradun by 10 AM on Day 1. Hire 2 Tempo Travellers and 3 Innova Crystas — we drive the full party together so nobody gets lost on the mountain road. Reach the hotel by 7 PM with refreshment breaks at Devprayag and Rudraprayag confluences.

Where Your Guests Stay — Hotels and Resorts Near Triyuginarayan

Accommodation in Triyuginarayan village itself is limited to basic guesthouses and the GMVN tourist lodge. For a comfortable wedding stay, most groups base in Guptkashi, Sitapur or Sonprayag — all within 30 to 60 minutes of the temple. Here are the properties we book most often.

Luxury and premium stays

  • Shri Tirtham Residency, Guptkashi: The closest premium stay to the temple. Modern rooms, valley views, dedicated wedding event team, can comfortably host 60 to 100 guests.
  • La Fiyoli, Guptkashi: Boutique luxury property with snow-peak views. Best for intimate weddings of 30 to 60 guests. Strong on food and hospitality.
  • Char Dham Camp, Sitapur: Luxury Swiss-tent property along the Mandakini river. Unique outdoor stay experience for adventurous couples.

Mid-range comfortable stays

  • Mandakini Tourist Lodge, Sonprayag: Clean, comfortable rooms with river views. Ideal for elderly guests who want minimum travel to the temple.
  • Hotel Surya, Guptkashi: Reliable mid-budget option with banquet space for sangeet and mehndi.
  • Premium homestays in Sari, Tholi Khal: Authentic Garhwali home-stay experience for smaller wedding groups of 15 to 30 guests.

Budget and guesthouse stays

  • GMVN Tourist Rest House: Government-run guesthouses in Sonprayag, Sitapur and Guptkashi — basic but clean, suitable for guest overflow.
  • Local Triyuginarayan village guesthouses: For couples and immediate family only — staying overnight in the village adds a powerful spiritual dimension to the wedding morning.

Insider Tip — Mix stay categories: Most weddings book the couple and parents in the premium hotel and put younger cousins in the mid-range or homestay options. This brings the average cost down by 25 to 30 percent without anyone feeling short-changed.

Temple Rules, Vedic Rituals and What to Expect on the Wedding Day

Triyuginarayan is an active Hindu temple, not a wedding hall. Knowing the rules in advance keeps the day smooth and respectful.

What is allowed

  • Hindu marriage ceremonies conducted by a temple-appointed priest (Purohit)
  • Vedic rituals around the Akhand Dhuni — sapta padi, mangal phera, samidha offerings, kanyadaan
  • Marigold and floral decor in modest, eco-friendly scale
  • Soft devotional music — bhajans, mangal geet, shehnai, dhol-damau
  • Traditional attire — sarees, lehengas, sherwanis, dhoti-kurta
  • Sattvic vegetarian prasad and meals near the temple
  • Photography and videography (drone permits required separately)

What is not allowed

  • Non-Hindu marriage ceremonies — only Hindu Vedic weddings are conducted at the temple
  • Non-vegetarian food anywhere within or near the temple complex
  • Alcohol within or near the temple — bar functions are held only at the hotel
  • Loud DJ music or amplified speakers near the temple
  • Lavish stage installations or large structures that obstruct the temple courtyard
  • Smoking inside the temple complex
  • Footwear inside the inner sanctum

Key Vedic rituals around the Akhand Dhuni

  • Kund Snan (Purification): The bride and groom take a symbolic bath or sprinkle from Rudra, Vishnu and Brahma Kunds before the ceremony.
  • Ganesh Puja: Worship of Lord Ganesh to begin the ritual without obstacles.
  • Kanyadaan: The father of the bride formally gives her hand in marriage.
  • Mangal Phera and Sapta Padi: Seven sacred rounds around the Akhand Dhuni with seven vows for married life.
  • Sindoor Daan and Mangalsutra: The groom applies vermilion and ties the sacred thread.
  • Samidha Offering: Couples offer wood and ghee into the eternal flame for blessings.
  • Akhand Dhuni Prasad and Ash: The couple receives blessed ash to carry home as a symbol of eternal love.

Documents needed for the temple wedding

  • Identity proof of bride and groom — Aadhaar, passport or PAN card
  • Age proof — birth certificate or 10th-standard certificate
  • Address proof
  • Two witnesses’ identity proofs (parents or close relatives are common)
  • Two passport-size photographs of each — bride and groom
  • For NRI couples — passport copy and any additional documents from the local embassy
  • After the ceremony, the temple issues a marriage receipt that can be used for legal registration

We Handle Every Permit, You Handle the Vows
Temple permissions, priest booking, marriage registration, NRI documentation — all included. You only focus on the moment.

Wedding Styles We Plan at Triyuginarayan

Triyuginarayan suits a specific kind of wedding — spiritual, intimate, deeply personal. Within that, there is room for several styles.

Intimate Vedic wedding (20 to 50 guests)

The most authentic format. The whole ceremony focuses on the Akhand Dhuni pheras and the kund purification. Decor stays minimal — marigold mandap, copper diyas, brass bells. Guests are immediate family and close friends. Total spend ₹2 to 8 lakh.

Himalayan heritage wedding (50 to 100 guests)

Full 3-day celebration with mehndi, sangeet and haldi at a Guptkashi hotel, the main wedding at the temple, and a reception dinner back at the hotel. Garhwali folk musicians, traditional Pahadi decor accents and a sattvic multi-cuisine menu. Total spend ₹15 to 22 lakh.

Luxury platinum wedding (100 to 150 guests)

5-star hill resort buyout, helicopter transfers from Dehradun, designer custom floral mandap around the Akhand Dhuni, choreographed sangeet, drone photography, celebrity musician for the evening reception. Total spend ₹45 lakh and above.

Love marriage and inter-caste wedding

Triyuginarayan welcomes love marriages and inter-caste Hindu weddings without restriction, as long as the ceremony is performed by a temple-appointed priest and both partners are of legal age. Parents are not legally required but their presence is encouraged. We coordinate every step including the legal marriage registration.

NRI and overseas couple wedding

Couples based in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Singapore, Dubai and Europe can plan a Triyuginarayan wedding entirely remotely. We run video consultations, share virtual venue tours, handle local logistics and additional NRI documentation. Most NRI couples arrive 2 to 3 days before the wedding and stay for a short post-wedding tour of Garhwal.

Eco-friendly Vedic wedding

An eco-friendly Triyuginarayan wedding uses locally sourced seasonal flowers (no imports), compostable plates and cutlery, copper and clay diyas instead of plastic, no single-use plastic in welcome hampers, and a fully sattvic Garhwali menu sourced from village farms. The forest backdrop is your decor.

Vow renewal and second marriage

Many couples return to Triyuginarayan for milestone anniversary vow renewals and second-marriage ceremonies. The temple welcomes both, with the same Vedic ritual structure. A vow-renewal ceremony for 10 to 20 close family members can be done in a single day, starting from ₹1.5 lakh.

Things to Do for Guests Around Triyuginarayan

A destination wedding at Triyuginarayan often becomes a small Garhwal pilgrimage and holiday for your guests. Here are nearby places and experiences we arrange for guests who want to explore.

  • Kedarnath Temple: One of the Char Dham pilgrimage sites. A helicopter from Phata or Sersi can do a same-day darshan. Recommended only between April and early November.
  • Kalimath Temple: An ancient Shakti Peeth, 30 km from Triyuginarayan, dedicated to Goddess Kali. A quiet, less-crowded alternative for guests interested in temple culture.
  • Ukhimath: The winter seat of Lord Kedarnath. 50 km drive with stunning valley views.
  • Chopta and Tungnath Trek: If your wedding has adventurous guests, arrange a half-day visit to Chopta — ‘Mini Switzerland of India’ — and a short trek to Tungnath, the world’s highest Shiva temple.
  • Kartik Swami Temple: A unique temple dedicated to the elder son of Shiva and Parvati. 3 km trek with 360-degree Himalayan views, including the Trishul peak.
  • Mandakini riverbank walks: Short morning walks along the Mandakini river — perfect for elderly guests and quiet moments.
  • Devprayag confluence: The sacred confluence of the Bhagirathi and Alaknanda rivers, where the Ganga officially begins. On the road back to Rishikesh.
  • Local Garhwali village walk: A guided walk through Sari, Mastura or another nearby village to see traditional Pahadi homes, terraced farms and meet local families.

Insider Tip — Plan a post-wedding pilgrimage: Many couples add a 2 to 3 day post-wedding Char Dham mini-tour. We coordinate the route, vehicles and stays.

The temple complex is an open, ancient site. While it can hold a fair number of people, the intimate nature of the
location is best suited for gatherings of up to 100-150 guests to ensure a serene and manageable ceremony.

The journey involves travel on mountain roads. The temple itself is accessible by road, with a short walk. We make
special arrangements, including comfortable transport and assistance on-site, to ensure elderly guests are well taken
care of. However, guests with severe respiratory or mobility issues should consult a doctor.

From Dehradun’s Jolly Grant Airport, the drive to the Guptkashi/Sonprayag area takes approximately 7-8 hours. The
temple is another 30-45 minute drive from there.

Mobile connectivity is available but can be patchy. Major networks like Jio and Airtel work reasonably well in towns like
Guptkashi. Wi-Fi will be available at most hotels we partner with. We recommend informing guests that they are
heading to a low-connectivity zone.

Absolutely. While the core rituals around the Akhand Dhuni are sacred and traditional, we can work with the priests to
incorporate any personal or regional customs you wish to include in your ceremony.
